Also known as PALISANDRE or INDIAN ROSEWOOD, a very sought after hardwood. Used for centuries from fine furniture making to all kinds of precious wood ornaments. A dense hardwood with dark rich espresso shades of deep purple. Aged with time, the colors will blend more uniformly. The young sapwood of lighter color towards white provides a striking combination with the dark tones of its heartwood.  Sonokeling is a highly sought after wood for the discerning few.

Heartwood tends to be a golden brown to purplish brown with darker brown streaks.

Has a medium texture and fairly small pores. The grains are usually narrowly interlocked.

Rated as very durable and resistance to termite but moderate resistance to insect attack.
